Rustling of the wings of history

The first Costa del Sol Open was played in 2012. Kirsi and Pauli Kirves started a tradition that continues to this day. The tournament has brought together bowlers from several European countries, even now later from outside Europe to compete on the sunny coast. In the beginning, in Fuengirola, the so-called on our own sledding field near the feria area, until in 2018 the tradition broke when the city built our field on the site of a park with a water pool. Then came the corona epidemic to mess up our great traditional tournament. When the Mölkky Costa del Sol association was founded in 2020 to revive the mölkky community in the area, it was also decided to continue the traditional tournament founded by Kirs and Paul. So, in the spring of 2021, the Costa del Sol Open was played again as a slightly smaller tournament, but still international, on the Vequila petanque courts. From there, the tournament started anew and continues now for the third time as an increasingly bigger and bigger event in El Esparragal park in Mijas. In 2024, there were exactly 100 participants from 10 different countries, it was the largest number of participants in history. Now in April 2025, there will be approx. 140 participants. The interest in our tournament shows that already in September 2024, our April Tournament was so-called fully booked, i.e. full. In April, we will meet at Aurinkoranniko in the city of Mijas.
